NINETEEN-year-old Kim Pa played a starring role in his language class graduation in Wellington – just two months after he escaped the turmoil in Burma.
Kim sought refugee status and is excited about having a fresh start in New Zealand, and he now wants to start his own band.
His first step after arriving in Wellington was to learn English and he enrolled in a learning program at the Multi-cultural Language and Support Service.
Kim graduated in June with 100 other refugee and migrant classmates.
At the celebration, Kim accompanied his friends on guitar while they sang Auld Lang Syne for their graduation ceremony.
He was then invited to play an improvised, solo piece, and although he had no time to prepare, the performance went down well.
He has been playing guitar for 11 years, and was in a Burmese rock band called Heaven Brothers. He played lead guitar and sang vocals, performing translated songs from artists such as Bon Jovi.
“I would like to be part of a band here in Wellington,” he says. He would be happy just to be a part of creating music, in any capacity.
“I like music very much, I’ve spent a long time at music, and I want to continue playing guitar with a band.”
Kim’s favourite artist is Steve Vai, and he would like to meet other musicians from Wellington. If you are interested, use the form below to leave your details and NewsWire will put you in touch.
